Exclusive addiction treatment

In most treatment centres, addiction is treated via the 12-step program, but at Paracelsus Recovery, we take a different approach. The 12-step program works for a lot of people but it is founded on the principles of modesty, absolute sobriety and sharing your experiences in a group setting. For most wealthy and high profile individuals, these principles are barriers to treatment. For example, a celebrity or successful businessman could struggle to share his experiences in a group setting for fear of someone telling the press. In addition, not every person responds successfully to the same programme and what works for someone may not work for another person. Therefore, personalisation of treatment is the key.

Whether your emotional difficulties require you to give up the substance or behaviour entirely or continue in moderation, this is a decision that remains with you. We simply provide the tools needed to regain control over your wellbeing.

Addictions are a result of an array of underlying issues

Emotional/psychological

Many psychological experiences such as undiagnosed mental health issues, trauma, burnout and others, can lead to substance abuse dependencies. Processing trauma and addressing these psychological issues is crucial for mental health and addiction recovery. At Paracelsus Recovery, we provide extensive and specialised psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychoeducation in order to identify and treat the underlying reason for the addiction.

Physical

Many addictions have a genetic or biological component unknown to the addicted person. Stress and our diets can also drastically increase our cravings for alcohol or substances. We provide numerous complementary therapies to manage stress levels and nutritional counselling to ensure an optimal diet. If a physical dependency is present, we will provide a medical detoxification procedure to address and ease the withdrawal symptoms that arise.

Social

Our social environment can strongly influence our behaviours and levels of stress. For example, someone who works long hours may turn to stimulant drugs to be able to stay focused or to alcohol to help them “turn off” after work. In addition, if someone often goes out with friends who are using substances or to social events where those around them are drinking, then it may be hard to abstain due to pressure from friends or colleagues.

Biochemical restoration

Biochemical restoration treatment aims to detox the whole being or ‘organism’ and repair any damage done to the brain and body on a cellular level. By restoring the chemical balance, the biochemical restoration will significantly improve cognitive skills, physical vitality and emotional stability and help to ensure a long-lasting recovery.

Understanding addiction

Addiction is common and current research shows that one in three people is addicted to something, be that alcohol, drugs, work, nicotine, food, shopping, or gambling. Addiction is best defined as “no longer being in control over something you are taking, using or doing to the extent that it becomes harmful to you.”

We recognise that addiction never materialises without reason. There are an interrelated number of emotional, physical and social factors that contribute to the development of a substance abuse dependency and at Paracelsus Recovery we address each of these underlying factors.
